Man sentenced for dumping waste tires at Ohiopyle

A Fayette County man serving a prison sentence for murdering his girlfriend in 2021 received an additional six- to 12-month prison sentence Thursday for dumping a large amount of waste tires at Ohiopyle State Park. Thomas L. Dean, 53, entered a fast-track guilty plea Thursday to misdemeanor violations of the Solid Waste Management Act, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced in a release. Dean is also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine to the Pennsylvania Solid Waste Abatement Fund. Laurel Highlands board OKs preliminary budget

The Laurel Highlands School District approved a preliminary budget with a $2.4 million deficit at its meeting Wednesday night. The tentative budget of $65,757,231 marks a $90,000 increase over the one in place for 2025-26, said Thomas Shetterly, the district鈥檚 acting business manager, during Wednesday鈥檚 meeting. 鈥淥ver the next month, the administration, the board are going to work to pare that down to a balanced budget,鈥 he said.
