Using the PVI Webmail Service

You can use the PVI Webmail service to check your mailbox from any computer with Internet access. Many of our clients find Webmail to be a convenient way to access their email when they are at home or traveling, some even use Webmail exclusively instead of an email client program like Outlook. One other advantage to Webmail is that all your data is stored securely on the PVI mail server, so if your personal computer is ever stolen or suffers a hard drive failure or virus attack, all your messages are safely stored offsite.

Even if you prefer to use Outlook to manage your email, you may want to use the Webmail site to change how your mailbox works, such as forwarding mail to another mailbox or creating an autoreply message to let people know you are on vacation. Here's how to get started with PVI Webmail:

Open your Web browser and go to http://mail.pviproductions.com (note that there is no "www" in this address). You will be presented with a logon screen like the one pictured below. Enter your full email address in the user name field and your password, then click the Sign In button to continue.

The next screen you see will depend on what theme you have chosen. You can choose from several different themes to change the colors, graphics and layout of the Webmail interface. No matter what theme you choose, all the available features are the same. If you have the default "Standard" theme selected, you'll see a menu on the left side of the page like this:

Most of the menu choices are self-explanatory. Get Mail checks the mail server for new messages that may have arrived since you last refreshed the screen. Compose opens an editor window so that you can write new messages. The Calendar and Tasks selections let you organize dates and to-do lists similar to those found in Outlook or another personal information management program. Empty Trash permanently deletes messages you have discarded and Sign Out logs you off of the Webmail service.

The two selections of the most interest to new users are Options and Help. The Help system is your first stop when you need assistance with using the Webmail service itself. (Note: These help screens are written by the publisher of the Webmail software, so the information is not PVI specific.)

Use the Options button to change the way your the Webmail screens look and set up the advanced features of your email account. The various sub-sections of the Options menu are shown below. Most users will find all the settings they need to adjust in the Personalize section: Forwarding, Autoresponders, and changing the way the WorldClient Webmail interface works.

Domain owners can use the MDaemon Settings area to perform advanced tasks like create new mailboxes and set up mailing lists.
