Setting up Outlook to access PVI Email

Microsoft Outlook is a full-featured and groupware solution that features both collaboration and email functionality. Because Outlook is part of the the popular Microsoft Office Suite it is the email client most often used by business users. Outlook's built-in junk mail screener, ability to handle several mailboxes at once and user configurable rules-based filters make it an excellent choice for many applications. Be careful not to confuse Outlook with the Outlook Express program that ships with Windows. The two programs have little in common other than the name.

The following instructions apply to Outlook 2003. If you have a different version of Outlook, your menus may vary slightly, but the information below will still apply.

In Outlook, open the open the TOOLS | EMAIL ACCOUNTS dialog from the pull down menu:

Choose Add a new e-mail account and click the Next > button. This will bring you to the mail server type dialog box:

Choose POP3 and click on the Next > button to open the settings dialog:

Option Note: If you plan to access your emil from more than one location, you may want to choose IMAP instead of POP3 for the mail server type. The IMAP format keeps your mailbox contents on the mail server instead of downloading everything to your computer the way POP3 does. This can be desirable if you frequently switch between computers, such as a desktop and a laptop.

Fill in your name and email address.  Enter your complete email address in the User Name field along with your Password. Type mail.pviproductions.com in both the incoming and outgoing mailserver fields as shown above. Now click on the More Settings... button, then click on the Outgoing Server tab:

Check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box and make sure the Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button is selected. Now click on the Advanced tab for one final enty:

Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to 366 and click OK to return you to the previous window. ou're done! To make sure your new mailbox is working properly, you can click on the Test Account Settings... button to send a test message to yourself.

Option Note: The default SMTP port of 25 works for many customers, but because many residential ISPs choose to block this port we recommend using the alternate port 366.
