Using ComAgent

ComAgent is free tool that you can use to enhance your experience with the PVI  email service. While it is designed primarily for users who choose our WorldClient Web mail as their main email client, ComAgent offers features that may be of interest to you even if you prefer to use Outlook or another email client program. Functions and features of ComAgent include:

  • Automatic notification when new mail arrives
  • One-click access to your WorldClient mailbox and calendar
  • Synchronize your Windows and WorldClient address books
  • Fully customizable alerts
  • Integrated instant messaging system
  • Simple software download and installation from your browser

Installing ComAgent

Open your Web browser and log in to http://mail.pviproductions.com.  Choose the "Options" selection from the navigation menu. The next screen you see will depend on what theme you have chosen. If you have the default "Standard" theme selected, you'll see a menu on the left side of the page like this:

 

Near the bottom of the list of options you should see ComAgent listed. Click to continue to the ComAgent software installation screen.

 

 

 

 

(If you are don't have the "Standard" theme selected your screen differ slightly.) In the LookOut theme, the ComAgent selection will appear on the left side of the options page like this:

 

Next you will be presented with a screen like this:

 

For most users, simply click on the "Download the ComAgent Installer" button.

If your computer doesn't run a recent version of Windows or your  browser  doesn't support ActiveX controls you will need to use the Java edition of ComAgent.

Follow the prompts to  install ComAgent on your computer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When the ComAgent installation has finished, you will see a mailbox configuration prompt like the one at the left. Confirm that your full email address and correct password are filled in. If you would like one click access to your mailbox, check the "Remember my password" box. Click on OK.

That's it! When ComAgent is running, you will see the globe icon in your task bar.

 

Working with ComAgent - FAQs

I'd like ComAgent to run every time I start my computer. How do I do that"
In the start menu, select All Programs | ComAgent. Right click on the ComAgent program icon and choose Create Shortcut. Now drag and drop the new shortcut into your Startup program group.

Where can I learn more about ComAgent's settings and functions?
A complete Help system is built into the program. When ComAgent is running, right click on the globe icon in your Taskbar at the bottom of your screen and choose Properties. You'll see the Help button on the lower right.

How do I transfer contacts from Outlook to Web mail and vice versa?
From the ComAgent properties window, click on the Synchronization tab. Choose the type of address book synchronization you want and click on the Synchronize Now button.

After synching an address book via ComAgent, not all my Outlook contacts appear in the Web mail address book. Why is this?
ComAgent requires an email address be present when synching from another address book such as Outlook. There may only be one contact per email address, and each contact must have an email address to show up.

I prefer to use Outlook Express as my mail client. Can I still use ComAgent to notify me when I have new messages?
Yes. From the ComAgent Properties window, click on the I tab. Under the Traditional mail client option, use the browse button to point to C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe

Can I use ComAgent with other instant messaging systems like AOL Instant Messenger?
No. The instant messaging function of ComAgent works only with other users in your organization. Unlike public systems like MSN, AIM or Yahoo, ComAgent is private, secure and provides full logging of IM sessions.

Can I use ComAgent to check mailboxes on other mail servers?
No. ComAgent works only with your PVI Enterprise mailboxes.
