Carei breaks own record as Uniontown swimming & diving sweep LH
The only change was the venue.
Uniontown sophomore Eleanor Carei broke her own school record nearly one year after setting it against Laurel Highlands on Thursday night in a Section 5-2A meet at the Mustangs’ natatorium.
Carei set the Lady Red Raiders’ record on Feb. 6, 2025, with a score of 218.30, which bested the previous mark of 212.70 that was accomplished by Jozie Squib in 2010 for six dives.
Carei posted a score of 231.10, which put her into the WPIAL championship meet, as she beat the qualifying standard of 170. Carei’s performance puts her as the No. 2 seed for the district championships, which will be held on Feb. 20 at North Allegheny High School.
Carei’s victory helped Uniontown edge the Lady Mustangs, 84-78, while the Red Raiders downed the Mustangs, 99-80, for the sweep.
Teammate Hannah Foster (50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke) won two individual events in times of 27.09 and 1:13.62. The senior’s time in the 100 breaststroke was a WPIAL cut. Fellow senior Joss Rutter topped the field in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.70.
