Undefeated Leopards edge Mustangs in boys golf

Jordan Mocello had three birdies in helping the Leopards to a 203-208 Section 2-3A victory over the Mustangs on Friday at Uniontown Country Club.
Mocello birdied the third, fourth and eighth holes and finished with a 1-over-par 37 of the front nine of Laurel Highlands’ home course.
Teammate Jack Edwards didn’t sink any birdies, but he came in at 38 to put the Leopards (9-0, 9-1) in a solid position after the first two starters finished for both teams.
Evan Mesco was the fourth starter for Belle Vernon, but carded a 40. Landon Vaccardo shot a 42 with two birdies.
The Mustangs’ Kayden Smith (40) and Ryan Revak (40) shared medalist honors with their team. Smith, who has started No. 1 for Laurel Highlands this season, made two birdies, while Revak, who teed off third for his squad, also sunk two birdies.
Damon Revak had a 41 and Mason Cicci made a birdie on the seventh hole on his way to a 43. Teammate Dan O’Neal connected for a birdie on the par-three second hole.
The victory put the Leopards in a good spot to win the section, as Melvin Gouker’s has a three-match lead over the Mustangs (5-3, 5-4) with three to play.
Laurel Highlands is still eligible for a berth in the team playoffs.
