Local softball roundup: Lady Raiders beat Ringgold, remain in first-place tie
Lauren White was 3 for 4 and scored two runs to help Uniontown defeat host Ringgold, 4-2, in a Section 2-AAAA softball game on Monday.
The Lady Raiders (7-0, 7-1) scored an unearned run in the fourth inning, added three more runs in the fifth to build a 4-0 lead and hung on from there to maintain their spot atop the section standings with Elizabeth Forward.
Winning pitcher Emmaleigh Noah allowed one earned run on six hits with no walks and five strikeouts and added a double with the bat.
Nellie Budinsky knocked in two runs for Uniontown and Graci Rodeheaver contributed a single, RBI, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Dani Vecchio took the loss for Ringgold (2-6, 2-8). She gave up three earned runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Lady Rams got two hits from Addison Jenkins and two RBIs and a single from Payton Roberts.
Frazier 16, Leechburg 0 – Jayanna Ciferno homered, doubled and knocked in four runs and Maddie Salisbury doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs as the Lady Commodores stomped host Leechburg (3-3, 4-4) in a Section 3-A game.
Addison Hiles pitched a three-hitter with five strikeouts for Frazier (6-0, 6-0).
Emi Bednar was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Claire Domonkos was 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored for the Lady Commodores, who also got a double, single and two RBIs from Gracen Hartman.
West Greene 12, Mapletown 2 – Payton Gilbert had two hits, including a double, three RBIs and was the winning pitcher as the Lady Pioneers triumphed over the host Lady Maples in a Section 2-A game
Gilbert gave up three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
Marissa Tharp tripled and doubled for West Greene (5-1, 6-3) which also got a double, single and two RBIs from Samantha Zimmerman, a double and two RBIs from Madelyn Roberts and two RBIs from Kylee Davis.
Losing pitcher Devan Clark doubled for Mapletown (4-3, 4-5) which got two hits and two runs scored from Makenna Lotspeich.
Connellsville 10, Upper St. Clair 0 – Cali Leichliter belted a 3-run home run and doubled to power the Lady Falcons to a Section 4-AAAAA home victory.
The Lady Falcons (5-2, 9-4) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and Leichliter’s home run increased the lead to 7-0 after two innings.
Connellsville added single runs in the bottom of the third, fourth and sixth innings.
The Lady Falcons’ Molly Greenawalt finished with two doubles and a single. Kira Davis also doubled.
Winning pitcher Iris Burd scattered five hits, struck out 10 and walked two.
Losing pitcher Brooklyn Kemp finished with a double.
Southmoreland 6, Mount Pleasant 0 – The Lady Scots scored all their runs in the top of the third inning for a Section 3-AAA road victory.
Kaylee Doppelheuer hit a solo home run in the third inning. Taylor Doppelheuer and Riley Puckey both drove in two runs with a double. Zoey Welling added a run-scoring single.
Taylor Doppelheuer finished with a three-hit game, while Puckey and Welling both added a pair of hits.
Maddie Brown struck out seven and walked one in the victory.
Mady Hart drove in the Lady Vikings’ run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Belle Vernon 12, Greensburg Salem 1 – The Lady Leopards hit four triples in rolling past the host Lady Lions (1-6, 3-9) in a Section 2-AAAA game.
Katie Sokol, Lauren VanDivner, Bella Williams and Sydney Start each had one triple and Williams added a double for Belle Vernon (6-3, 11-3).
Charleroi 10, Beth-Center 0 – Riley Jones doubled twice and Lyla Brunner also had two hits as the Lady Cougars (8-2, 5-2) blanked the Lady Bulldogs (3-3, 3-3) in a Section 3-AA game.
Hempfield 2, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Maggie Howard tripled and the Lady Spartans handed the visiting Lady Warriors (9-1) their first loss of the season in a non-section clash.
Winning pitcher Riley Miller pitched four shutout innings for Hempfield (9-1). Shelby Telegdy homered and singled for EF.
Jefferson-Morgan 18, Avella 0 – Addalei Larkin, Ava Wood and Brooklynne Snyder each smacked a double as the Lady Rockets (4-2, 4-4) cruised past the visiting Lady Eagles (0-7, 3-8) in a Section 2-A game.
Kallyn Novak had three RBIs for J-M.
Laurel Highlands 7, Albert Gallatin 3 – Emelia Cavaliere hit a home run and winning pitcher Harlie Dirda, Aubrey Speelman and Kayla Howell each had a double as the Fillies (3-5, 3-6) beat the visiting Lady Colonials in a Section 2-AAAA game.
Mya Glisan doubled and singled for Albert Gallatin (1-7, 1-8) which also got two hits from Maggie Quertinmont. Avery Walls took the loss.
Ligonier Valley 10, Yough 0 – Cheyenne Piper fired a one-hit shutout as the Lady Rams blanked the Lady Cougars in a five-inning Section 3-AAA game.
Abby Springer doubled and singled twice for Ligonier Valley (5-1, 8-1).
Kylee Fisher hit a double for Yough (4-2, 5-2).
Monessen 21, St. Joseph 12 – Sidney Campbell had three hits, including a double, and six RBIs in the Lady Greyhounds’ Section 3-A victory over host St. Joseph (1-4, 1-4).
Joey Hurst and Ayvionna Minnie each added a double for Monessen (4-4, 4-5).
Seton LaSalle 2, Brownsville 1 – Kiara Cerminara had a double, single and an RBI as Seton LaSalle (2-3, 3-5) edged the Lady Falcons in a Section 4-AAA game.
Losing pitcher Ava Clark had 16 strikeouts for Brownsville (2-4, 3-6) which got a double from Mia O’Hern.
Waynesburg Central 16, Keystone Oaks 4 – Winning pitcher Gina Tedrow ripped a trio of doubles and Mikalynn Good smashed a home run as the Lady Raiders romped over host Keystone Oaks (0-6, 3-7) in a Section 4-AAA game.
Tedrow struck out 11 for Waynesburg (4-2, 6-6) which also got a double from Dani Stockdale.
