California (Pa.) senior Noah Bernarding broke his own school record by two-tenths of a second in the 800-meter run on Friday at Princeton.

Bernarding finished 19th with a time of 1:50.47 in a race that was dominated by Division I runners. Bernarding was the first Division II athlete to cross the finish line. He has the fastest time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this season by over one second in the 800.

Teammate Marlin Davis, a junior, reached the league standard in winning the 100 and 200-meter dashes at West Virginia. He won the 200 with the best time in the PSAC this year in 21.25. Davis crossed the finish line in 10.69 in the 100.

The Vulcans’ Jon Berzonsky had a PSAC-qualifying time of 1:55.33 in the 800.

California’s Aidan McMahon earned a personal record (PR) of 22.03 in the 200. Teammate Ethan Moyer had a throw of 55.46 meters (181-11.0 feet) to improve his conference-qualifying standard.

Vulcan freshman Jack Ozimek won the high jump for the second time this season after clearing 1.80 meters (5-10.75 feet).

California is at Slippery Rock from Thursday-Saturday in the PSAC Championships.

Yellow Jackets’ Baker breaks school record

Waynesburg University’s Rylie Baker broke the school’s record in women’s hammer throw on Saturday in the Stan Romanoski Open at West Virginia University.

Baker, a sophomore, was the only Yellow Jacket to compete in the event. She placed third with a PR of 33.76. Baker was the top Division III finisher.

Baker has thrown four of the five farthest marks in the hammer throw in program history. All her top throws occurred this season.

Waynesburg places 6th at PAC Outdoor Championships

The Yellow Jacket men finished in sixth place over two days in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at West Virginia University’s Mylan Park.

Jacob Harker won the shot put title with a throw of 15.04 meters on his first attempt, which broke his own school record. Harker won the PAC indoor title in February. He was fourth in the discus with a throw of 41.51.

Teammates John Stewart (3rd/41.94 meters) and Ryan Zawislak (7th/39.72) also placed in the discus.

Adam Helbling posted a PR of 6.35 meters to finish fourth in the long jump. His leap was the eighth best in program history. Helbling was 10th in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 12.55. The jump was less than a decimeter from being on the top-10 list in program history.

Tanksley wins 10K title in women’s PAC meet

Waynesburg junior Grace Tanksley helped the Yellow Jackets to an eighth-place finish in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at West Virginia University’s Mylan Park with a victory in the 10,000-meter run.

Tanksley crossed the finish line in 39:25.94, which was originally for second place, but an equipment violation disqualified the first-place finisher, and Tanksley earned Waynesburg’s fifth 10,000-meter conference champion since 2016.

Beth-Center graduate Ella Boothe finished ninth in the 400-meter dash in a PR of 1:02.99.
