HS football roundup: Trojans alone atop TCS after win over Pioneers

Malachi Peak scored three touchdowns and California rolled past visiting West Greene, 50-0, Friday night to take over sole possession of first place in the Class A Tri-County South Conference.
The Trojans (5-0, 7-1) were tied atop the standing with Jefferson-Morgan but the Rockets fell into a second-place tie with Bentworth after suffering their first loss of the season to the host Bearcats.
The Pioneers fell to 1-4 in the conference and 1-7 overall.
Logan Hartley’s 30-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and Brandon Meier’s two-point conversion run put California ahead to stay, 8-0.
Peak scored on an 18-yard run later in the quarter with Meier throwing a two-point pass to Adin Keyes to make it 16-0.
The Trojans got touchdown runs of 6 yards from Landon Abercrombie and 1 yard by Peak in the second quarter to push their advantage out to 30-0 at halftime.
Peak’s third TD came on a 40-yard run in the third quarter and California tacked on scoring runs of 10 yards by Abercrombie and 6 yards by Meier in the fourth quarter.
University (W.Va.) 52, Connellsville 12 — Marcos Kniska ran for three touchdowns as the host Hawks beat the Falcons in a non-conference game.
Harrison Helberg threw touchdown passes to Kaleil Lewis and Hayden George for University (5-2) which led 28-0 after one quarter and 31-0 at halftime.
The Hawks also got a 24-yard field goal by Brady Goodenow and a 60-yard kickoff return for a score by Jack Bryer.
Both Connellsville (1-7) touchdowns came in the third quarter on Caden Matthews’ 8-yard pass to Christian Thomas and Jayden Mickens’ 2-yard run.
Keystone Oaks 21, Waynesburg Central 14 — The Raiders’ playoff hopes took a hit with a Class 2A Century Conference loss to the host Golden Eagles at Dormont Memorial Stadium.
Owen Gearhart scored a pair of second-half touchdowns with the second a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter that broke a 14-14 tie.
Roan Tustin’s 7-yard touchdown run gave Waynesburg (1-3, 3-5) a 6-0 lead in the first quarter by Keystone Oak’s Alex Guerra Naranjo recovered a fumble in the end zone later in the frame with Luc Phillistine’s extra-point kick putting the hosts ahead 7-6.
Gearhart’s 43-yard touchdown run put the Golden Eagles (3-1, 3-4) up 14-6 in the third quarter but the Raiders pulled even at 14-14 later in the quarter when Teagen Crouse threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to Jack Ricciuti and then tossed a two-point conversion pass to Ace Litwinovich.
That just set the stage for Gearhart’s winning score in the fourth quarter.
Beth-Center 48, Mapletown 0 — Enzo Brown and Cyncere Cruse each scored a pair of touchdowns in the host Bulldogs’ Class A Tri-County South Conference win over the Maples (0-5, 1-7).
Brown and Cruse had TD runs of 5 and 3 yards in the first quarter to give Beth-Center (2-3, 2-6) a 14-0 lead.
The Bulldogs got touchdown runs in the second quarter of 2 yards by Teagan Veatch and 4 yards by Homer Headless sandwich around Brody Bebout’s 39-yard scoring pass to Brown to make it 35-0 at halftime.
Beth-Center capped the scoring with Cruse’s 50-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and Evan Miller’s 25-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
B-C kicker Hunter Bobbs converted six of seven extra-point attempts.
Northern Garrett (Md.) 39, Uniontown 0 — The Huskies (3-3) defeated the Red Raiders (2-6) in a non-conference game at Bill Power Stadium.
