Local roundup: Lady Colonials earn first section win of season

Ellie Seese was 2 for 3, including a three-run homer in the first inning, with five RBIs and two runs scored as Albert Gallatin hammered PetersTownship, 14-3, for its first Section 4-5A win of the season in softball action Tuesday.

Mya Glisan clubbed a grand slam for Albert Gallatin (1-9, 3-10) which also got two hits apiece from Hannah Dunham and Jenna Chapman.

Winning pitcher Maggie Quertinmont struck out five and walked one for coach Makayla Munchinski’s squad.

Avery Carson doubled and had two RBIs for the Lady Indians (1-10, 3-12).

Carmichaels 15, Mapletown 0 – Bailey Barnyak threw a three-inning perfect game and Duski Staggers was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs in the Lady Mikes’ Section 2-A win over the visiting Lady Maples.

Barnyak struck out eight of the nine batters she faced.

Kaitlyn Waggett was 3 for 3 and Ke’Lani Chun doubled and single for Carmichaels (8-0, 12-0) which also got two hits and two RBIs from Ashton Batis and two singles from Carys McConnell.

Cora Roberts took the loss for Mapletown (1-9, 3-12).

Belle Vernon 6, Laurel Highlands 3 – Bella Williams hit a three-run triple as Lady Leopards scored all their runs in the second inning in defeating the visiting Fillies in a five-inning Section 2-4A game.

Mailey Hayes had two hits and two RBIs for Belle Vernon (7-5, 9-9) which also got two hits from Mia Zubovic.

Liv McClelland doubled for Laurel Highlands (5-6, 7-9).

Winning pitcher Lily Crawford pitched a three-hitter with no walks and two strikeouts.

Payton Senge took the loss.

Baseball

Waynesburg Central 13, Keystone Oaks 3 – Alex VanSickle was 3 for 3 with a double, triple an RBI and two runs scored as the first-place Raiders thumped the visiting Golden Eagles in a Section 4-3A game.

Derek Turcheick tripled and knocked in two runs, C.J. Corwin had a double and two RBIs and Ethan Kiger and Grant Pack each had a single and two RBIs for Waynesburg (10-0, 14-1) which also got a double from Jarrett Tretinik.

Winning pitcher Austin Surber gave up one earned run on two hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 4 â…“ innings. VanSickle recorded the final two outs in relief.

Brady McDine had the only two hits for Keystone Oaks (4-6, 7-7).

Mount Pleasant 4, Ringgold 2 – Carter Strayer doubled and Jacob Kitz was the winning pitcher as the Vikings (10-4) doubled up the Rams (7-9) in a non-section game.

Ashton Mincin was the losing pitcher.

Belle Vernon 11, Albert Gallatin 0 – Connor Bergman homered, doubled, singled and drove in two runs and Lucas Judy tossed a four-hit shutout as the visiting Leopards blanked the Colonials in a six-inning Section 2-4A game.

Judy, who also had two hits and three RBIs, struck out five and walked one. Chase Petrosky added two hits for Belle Vernon (8-2, 11-3).

Geno Valenti singled and walked for Albert Gallatin (4-8, 4-10).

Greensburg Central Catholic 8, West Greene 2 – Anthony Grippo and Nick O’Mahoney both singled twice as the first-place Centurions knocked off the Pioneers in a Section 1-A game.

GCC (8-1, 10-1) also got doubles from Bobby Smithnosky and Brody Bothell.

Jeannette 10, Mapletown 0 – Evan Yargeau had three hits and was the winning pitcher as the Jayhawks shut out the Maples in a Section 1-A game.

Spencer Yeager doubled and singled for Mapletown (0-10, 2-12).

Ligonier Valley 10, Southmoreland 1 – Miles Smith threw a five-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts and Austin Harr had three hits, including two triples, and four RBIs as the Rams (6-4, 7-7) defeated the Scotties in a Section 3-3A game.

Brenden Geho tripled and singled for Southmoreland (0-10, 1-13).
