Local roundup: Uniontown splits DH with Charleroi
Charleroi and Uniontown split a doubleheader Thursday night at Hutchinson Field in Hopwood.
Charleroi (1-5) edged Uniontown, 7-6, in Game 1 before the home team scored nine unanswered runs in an 11-3 victory in Fayette County American Legion baseball play.
Uniontown (7-3) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but Charleroi scored four in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 7-5 advantage. Uniontown scored one run in the sixth.
Jake Gelder earned the pitching victory after allowing five runs (two earned) on 11 hits over four innings. He struck out three and walked one. Brock Henderson worked the final three innings for the save.
Dylan Klinger doubled for Charleroi, while Brayden Hinzy and Eahn Stevenson had two baggers for Uniontown. Stevenson had three hits and two RBIs. Teammate Noah Lion had three singles.
Nick Felzar and Shane Kelly had two hits apiece for the home team.
Jace Pager had two hits for Charleroi.
Hinzy won Game 2 after allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits over six innings. He struck out and walked five. Stevenson pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.
Barrett Shuba and Kelly doubled for Uniontown. Lion and Kelly had two hits apiece.
Klinger knocked in two runs and singled.
Youghiogheny 2, Brownsville 0 — Gavin Roebuck threw a one-hit shutout and drove in both runs in Fayette County Baseball League play.
Roebuck struck out four and didn’t walk a batter over seven innings.
Josh Davison took the loss for Brownsville, but had a quality outing in yielding two earned runs on five hits over six. He had three strikeouts and no walks.
Youghiogheny (3-2) scored the only runs Roebuck would need in the third inning with two outs. Blake Ulander and Shane Evans singled before Dom Koch was hit-by-pitch to load the bases.
Roebuck’s base hit to center field plated Ulander and Evans.
Willie Palmer singled in the top of the first inning for Brownsville.
