John Drew McGukin
John Drew McGukin, 73, of Farmington, PA, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Drew was born on January 16, 1953 in Carrollton, Georgia son of the late Ben and Myra Grant McGukin.
He graduated from Temple High School in 1971. He received an Associate of Arts degree in 1973 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 from Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, a Master of Arts degree in 1978 and a Specialist in College Teaching degree in 1979 from Murray State University in Kentucky, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1986 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He taught at Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee from 1978 to 1980, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio from 1985 to 1987, Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama from 1987 to 1990, and California University of Pennsylvania from 1990 top 2019. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Brownsville, Pennsylvania where he served as an elder and trustee.
Drew is survived by his wife, Dona Rae Shupe McGukin; son, Joshua McGukin; brother and sister-in-law, Grant McGukin and Wanda Rainey McGukin, of Carrollton, Georgia; sister, Becky McGukin Hester of Bremen, Georgia; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kevin Shupe and Kathy Magruda Shupe of Brownsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Missy Shupe Lacey and Rick Lacey of Daisytown; brother-in-law, Michael Adamson of Brownsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his younger sister, Dale McGukin; bother-in-law, F.A. Hester, Jr.; and sister-in-law Patricia Shupe Adamson.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Christian Church, 512 Second St., Brownsville, PA on Monday, May 18, 2026 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Charles House officiating.
