Ada Marie Hixon Rockwell, 83, of Uniontown, passed away on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10, 2026, at WVU Uniontown Hospital.

She was born on December 22, 1942, in Uniontown, to Charles A. and Lillian M. McDonald Hixon.

Ada graduated from North Union High School in 1960. She was a bookkeeper at Fayette Bank for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mom/homemaker.

On February 17, 1964, she married Lloyd R. Rockwell, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2015.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Carl P. Hixon and Charles A. Hixon Jr.

Ada had four children, all of Uniontown: Colleen (Rockwell) Smitley and husband, Tom, Brenda (Rockwell) Campbell and husband, Gary, Lloyd Rockwell, Jr. and wife, Tracy and Randolph Rockwell and wife, Laura. She also had 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Beverly Hixon, Carol Cunningham, and Janice Ingram, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Ada was a lifetime member of Calvary United Methodist Church and participated in several sewing groups in the Uniontown area including Calvary’s prayer shawl group, Third Presbyterian Church’s sewing ladies, and at the Grace Brethren Church. Over the years, she made many many walker and wheelchair bags to pass out to local nursing homes, and also participated with St. Vincent DePaul in making sleeping mats out of grocery store plastic bags to pass out to the homeless.

Ada could sew, repair, hem and mend just about anything you gave her. She altered anything from wedding gowns to FR clothing. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, especially cardinals.

Ada stitched love into every seam, baked the best cookies and never turned down a bowl of ice cream! Her warm heart, gentle hands, and sweet spirit made life better for everyone lucky enough to know her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, where family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 13. Visitation will continue from 10 to 11 a.m., the hour of service, Thursday, May 14, with Pastors Ryan Washabaugh and Terry Sanders officiating. Interment will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ada’s memory can be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 34 Clarke Ave., Uniontown, PA 15401, or Fayette Friends of Animals, 223 Searights Herbert Rd., Uniontown, PA 15401.
