Orlando A. Prete

Bobtown
Orlando A. Prete, 101, a longtime resident of Bobtown, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2025, in Concordia of Bridgeville, where he had resided for the past several years. Born in Masontown May 25, 1924, he was a son of the late Nazarene and Anna Rossi Prete.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps during World War II, he honorably served in the South Pacific Theater, and received the Purple Heart medal.
Orlando was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church, where he was an usher for many years.
He retired after 47 years at J & L Steel’s Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, and was also partner at Prete’s Texaco Service Station in Dilliner.
He was a member of the VFW Post 5567 in Bobtown for 66 years, where he was its quartermaster for 25 years. Currently he belonged to the VFW Post 3491 and the American Legion Post 400, both in Carmichaels.
His wife, Mary E. Williams Prete, passed away in September of 1997. Also deceased are sisters, Mary Yancich and Doris Lewandowski; and brother, Louis Prete.
He is survived by three children, Diana Gronholm of Monroeville, Mark Prete of Carnegie, and Kathy Barone of Bridgeville, and their families.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Memorial Mass at the St. Ignatius Worship Site of St. Matthias Parish in Bobtown at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6. Military honors will be accorded following the Mass by the Carmichaels American Legion and VFW. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park will be private.
