Duane W. Ready

formerly of Hopwood
Duane W. Ready, 81, went to be with his Lord Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, in Uniontown Hospital, with his loving family by his side.
He was raised in Hopwood and later moved to Pittsburgh with his mother when he was 12. He kept close ties to the Hopwood area his whole life and returned to spend his last months in Uniontown.
Duane attended Point Park College, Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Master’s in Business.
He held positions at Calgon Corporation, Kipin Industries and finally with the IRS as a revenue agent.
Duane is survived by his daughters, Elaine Townsend (LeRoy), and Lynn Ready-Aspiotes (George); grandchildren, Evan, Eric and Ellie Townsend; sister, Wilma Ready; close nephew, Kevin Ready; and sister- in-law, Jody Wolfe.
He was predeceased by his mother, Eva Jane Ready (Watson); and brother, Fred Ready.
He was a member of Mt. Lebanon Christian Church for 47 years. He served his church in many ways, as a deacon and a trustee.
He had a very giving heart and showed it by giving of his time with many different organizations over his lifetime. He delivered meals for Home Delivered Meals, was involved with local animal shelters and fostered dogs, searched for book request through the Pittsburgh Prison Book Project because he thought everyone and everything deserved kindness. He was always there to help his family in any way, too. Duane sacrificed for his children in many ways and always wanted the best for his daughters and grandchildren.
He enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and loved to share with his grandchildren the story and love for game 7 of the 1960 World Series. He had a love of billiards from the time he was very young and enjoyed playing and telling his family about the old pool halls around Uniontown. He enjoyed researching, writing and collecting. He enjoyed collecting all sorts of stuff and didn’t often miss visiting Trader Jack’s on a Saturday morning. Duane’s biggest collection is a vast amount of match covers and enjoyed searching for those from all over.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood. Additional visitation will be held from 10 until the hour of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 19, with the Reverend Dr. Cindy McClung officiating.
