Flags placed on Greene veterans’ graves
Greene County veterans’ graves were freshly marked with an American flag through a statewide movement to celebrate America’s sesquicentennial.
On May 16 — Armed Forces Day — volunteers, veterans’ organizations, county agencies, historical groups, and community partners joined America250PA to place American flags at veterans’ gravesites across Pennsylvania as part of its Memorial Flag Initiative.
America250PA marked the day by providing more than 25,000 American flags statewide, while also coordinating volunteers and supporting local placement efforts where additional assistance was needed. Participating sites reflected generations of American service, from Revolutionary War burial grounds to enduring traditions of gratitude and patriotism sustained by local governments, veterans’ organizations, and volunteers.
Locally, Greene County Veterans Affairs partnered with America250PA for volunteer placements at Greene County Memorial Park in Morgan Township.
“Every year, dedicated Pennsylvanians carry out this important gesture of remembrance in cemeteries large and small — often without recognition, but always with care,” said Cassandra Coleman, executive director of America250PA. “Veterans’ groups, county officials, families, and neighbors have upheld this tradition for generations, and America250PA was proud to stand alongside them.”
