Donora man charged for assault, pulling gun on police
A Donora man is accused of pulling out a gun when police attempted to arrest him for assaulting his wife.
Donora police charged William Russell, 81, on Monday with a felony of aggravated assault, and misdemeanors of reckless endangerment, simple assault and resisting arrest.
According to the criminal complaint, shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the 800 block of Castner Avenue after Diane Kariski-Russell called 911 to report that Russell had been drinking and assaulted her.
When an officer tried to detain Russell, he allegedly pulled a .22-caliber revolver out of his pocket.
Charging documents state police used a Taser on him multiple times before taking him into custody.
Kariski-Russell told police that her husband had hit her in the face multiple times.
Russell was arraigned Monday morning before District Judge Eric Porter, who sent him to the Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Jan. 21.
