A West Virginia woman is accused of fleeing police while high on crack cocaine late Thursday.

State police said they tried to pull over Kimberly Simpson, 31, of Kingwood for driving with her turn signal on for about a mile on Morgantown Road in South Union Township. Police said it appeared as if Simpson was pulling into a driveway on Morgantown Road, but she accelerated and continued to flee.

During the chase, court paperwork indicated Simpson’s Kia reached speeds of 80 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Eventually, Simpson parked in a driveway in South Union Township and fled on foot before she was apprehended, said police. She reportedly told police she did not stop because she was driving on a suspended license. She also, allegedly, told police she had consumed crack-cocaine before driving.

Police found drug paraphernalia including stamp bags with traces of white residue and numerous open alcohol containers, according to court paperwork.

Simpson is charged with fleeing, driving under the influence and six charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also cited with careless driving, reckless driving, not stopping at a stop sign and having open containers in her vehicle.

She is in the Fayette County jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond. Her preliminary hearing in front of is scheduled for later this month
