Alleged meth dealer sought after Greene County charges filed
Charged after investigation into possible sales at Dubtown Vapes
Police are asking for information on the whereabouts of a Washington man charged with selling methamphetamine out of the Waynesburg vape shop where he worked.
William Charles Smith, 65, faces three felony drug charges for allegedly selling methamphetamines at Dubtown Vapes on East High Street.
On Nov. 9, an undercover detective with the Greene County Drug Task Force met Smith at the store after a confidential informant introduced the two, according to charging documents. The detective asked Smith for “oil burners,” a slang term for a pipe used to inhale meth, which Smith confirmed that he sold, the charging documents said.
After the detective said he preferred a clear pipe, Smith allegedly asked a female employee to retrieve pipes from the back room. She returned with a box, from which Smith produced one of the pipes and handed it to the detective, who paid $5.99, charging documents said.
About 15 minutes after he bought the pipe, the detective asked Smith if he had anything for sale he could put in it; the implication was meth, he wrote in the charging documents.
Smith asked the detective how much he wanted to buy, the charging document said.
He told Smith he wanted a ball for $80, but Smith said he did not have that much on hand, court paperwork indicated. They settled on a lesser amount of $40, according to the charging documents. At that point, Smith pulled a cellophane wrapper from his left jean pocket.
The undercover detective left with the confidential informant. A field test of the wrapped material confirmed it was methamphetamine, the charging documents said.
Four charges were filed against Smith on Monday: felony counts of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance, and a misdemeanor count of delivery of drug paraphernalia.
No preliminary hearing date had been set as of Thursday.
