Tractor-trailer fire in Rostraver snarls I-70 traffic

A tractor-trailer hauling frozen pies caught fire Sunday afternoon while traveling east on Interstate 70 in Rostraver Township, causing hefty traffic delays on the highway.
The driver pulled the rig onto the shoulder of the road near the Donora-Fayette City exit when the trailer’s rear wheels caught fire shortly after 2 p.m., although the highway was closed for about 30 minutes while Rostraver firefighters battled the blaze.
Additional lane restrictions lasted for another two hours while crews removed the vehicle, causing eastbound traffic to back up to the Belle Vernon Bridge until the interstate fully reopened. No injuries were reported.
