A woman is dead and her husband wounded after their son allegedly shot them inside their Greene County home Friday and went on the run before he was arrested Saturday night in West Virginia.
Police said they were called to the Garrison Ridge Road home in Freeport Township shortly before 2 p.m. and found two victims who suffered gunshots in the residence.
Both were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where the woman died from her injuries, police said. The man, who was not immediately identified, suffered a gunshot wound and is listed as stable, police said.
Greene County Coroner Gene Rush identified the deceased woman as Mary Noll, although he said the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s office is handling the inquiry into her death because she died in Morgantown.
State police identified the gunman as the couple’s son, 18-year-old Jarrod Noll of New Freeport, and said he left the scene following the shooting. Troopers searched the area, but were unable to find Noll. Investigators did not release a motive or details about what happened that precipitated the shooting.
Police charged Noll with criminal homicide and attempted homicide Saturday morning, according to online court records, and released photographs from video surveillance showing him entering an unidentified store. Authorities spread out across the region searching for him, and he was eventually located in West Virginia about 5 p.m. Saturday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Authorities in West Virginia took Noll into custody, although details of his arrest were not immediately released. Noll will need to be extradited back to Pennsylvania to face arraignment on homicide and attempted homicide charges. It’s not known when he will be returned to Pennsylvania to face the criminal charges, which were filed at District Judge David Balint’s office in Waynesburg.
