Raiders’ Groves, Surber named to All-State team

Waynesburg Central’s baseball team claimed the Section 4-3A outright championship and won a WPIAL playoff game this past season and after having six players named to the all-section team the Raiders had two more players earn honors recently.
Senior Tyler Groves and junior Austin Surber were selected to the Pennsylvania Baseball Coaches Association’s second annual All-State team.
Both players were named to the Class 3A second team as pitchers.
Groves and Surber were two of 27 WPIAL players chosen for the team.
Groves was 9-1 with a 1.76 ERA and had 69 strikeouts to 23 walks in 51 â…” innings. He also batted .385 with 15 RBIs, four doubles, three triples, 17 runs and 12 stolen bases and had an on base percentage of .536.
Surber was 5-0 with a 1.85 ERA and had 45 strikeouts and 23 walks in 30 â…“ innings. Offensively, Surber hit .288 with 15 RBIs, five doubles, one triple, one home run, 18 runs and eight stolen bases.
Groves and Surber were the only Section 4-3A players named to the team.
