Pennsylvania Trolley Museum adds 1932 vintage trolley to its collection

1 min read

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum has added another vintage trolley to its collection.

The museum announced last week it has acquired Red Arrow No. 83, a suburban streetcar that connected Philadelphia to its western suburbs. The trolley was built in 1932 by the J.G. Brill Company of Philadelphia for the Philadelphia & West Chester Traction Company.

The car was built mostly out of aluminum to save weight and it had comfortable seats as part of an effort to draw people away from their cars.

Scott Becker, the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum’s executive director and CEO, said that “to be able to acquire a complete 1932 trolley that fits our broad-gauge track in this day and age is quite remarkable.”

Red Arrow No. 83 will eventually be restored to operation in a paint scheme used in the latter years of its service life.
