FCBL announces year-end awards

Fayette County Baseball League president Ryan Encapera announced the league’s award winners at the conclusion of league championship series Tuesday night at Carmichaels.
M&R Transit won the best-of-5 series, 3-2, against Carmichaels, securing the final win with a 12-2 road victory.
Members of the Mike Susa FCBL Playoff Championship team were Kaleb Scott, Jace Cappellini, Chad Petrush, Ryan Covelens, Justin Brestensky, Santino Marra, Braeden O’Brien, Andino Vecchiolla, Garrett Myers, Nate Zimcosky, Chase Sankovich, Tyler Sankovich, Louden Conte, Chad Pillar and Caleb Yanosky. Buddy Marra was the manager and the coaching staff included Junior Marra, Punch Zimcosky and Chilly Concilla.
Santino Marra received the Tom Croftcheck Playoff MVP Award. Zimcosky was the John Kupets Batting Champion (avg) Award recipient with a .523 average (23-for-44), one home run and 15 RBI. Vecchiolla received the John “Preacher” Collingwood RBI Leader Award with 21 RBI.
Carmichaels received the Bob Nichols Playoff Runner-Up Award, as well as the Tom Sankovich FCBL Regular Season Champions Award after finishing first with a 14-3-1 record.
Carmichaels’ Gianni Cantini received the Joe Kurnot Top Pitcher Award. Cantini went 5-0 with a .483 ERA and 39 strikeouts.
The Copperheads’ rookie catcher Hunter Mamie was given the Alex “Pickhandle” Merkosky HR Leader Award after belting four home runs.
WBAC’s Colby Simmons received the Arky Shaffer Comeback Player of the Year Award with a .479 average (23-for-48).
Mill Run’s Josh Burns was recognized by the league’s umpires as the Paul Lancaster Sportsmanship Award.
M&R Transit and Carmichaels both swept the opening best-of-3 semifinal series. M&R Transit had wins of 10-0 and 11-6 over Mill Run, while Carmichaels had a pair of 10-0 victories against WBAC.
The 2025 season will be the league’s 50th in existence.
