Food collection
The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association’s “Food For Falcons” food program is collecting applesauce cups or fruit cups during the months of July and August. There will be a donation area in each participating BAMA church and at the end of the collection period the items will be gathered and taken to the Brownsville First Christian Church to be packed and sent home with selected elementary students.
Flea market
A flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 18, at the Dawson Grange Building,
110 Chaintown Road, Dawson. The event benefits Dawson Grange Fair.
Food distribution
A food bank distribution will be held at Pleasant View Presbyterian Church (533 Royal Road, Smock) at 10 a.m. July 18.
Blood drive
A blood drive will be held at the First Christian Church of Brownsville (512 Second St.) on July 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.
Volunteers needed
Help is needed with unloading the food bank truck at the First Christian Church (512 Second St., Brownsville) on July 24 at 9 a.m. The food will be distributed July 25 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.
Hopwood Garden Club
The Hopwood Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at Eat’n Park. Anyone interested in joining the group is invited to attend. Current members are from Uniontown, Ohiopyle and Hopwood.
VBS planned
A Vacation Bible School sponsored by the St. Peter & St. Cecilia Parishes will be held July 28 to 31. Children in grades K-5 are welcome. You do not have to be a member of the parish to attend. The event will be held at St. Mary’s Social Hall (118 Church St., Brownsville). For more information, call 724-785-7781.
‘Loads of Love’
Pleasant View Presbyterian Church (533 Royal Road, Smock) is sponsoring “Loads of Love” at the Mod Laundromat (503 Union St., Brownsville, across from the Dairy Queen) on July 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. Those who need help paying for laundry costs are invited to do their laundry at this time.
Music camp
Mon Valley Academy for the Arts will hold a free “Listen Up” Summer Music Camp July 20-23 at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center, 119 Brownsville Ave., Brownsville. Session times are 10 to 11:15 a.m. for ages 4 to 8 and 1 to 2:15 p.m. for ages 9 to 14. Parents and guardians are invited and encouraged to attend alongside their children. Individuals and businesses interested in helping sponsor music education opportunities for local youth are encouraged to contact Carla Anderton, CFRE, Vice President of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts, at 724-970-5841.
Indoor flea market
Perryopolis Methodist Church, 203 Independence St., will hold an indoor flea market from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 1.
Arts program
Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) invites teens to participate in its ongoing Crafty Conversations program, held on the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center, 119 Brownsville Ave., Brownsville. The free sessions offer teens a chance to express themselves artistically. Radio club
The Uniontown Amateur Radio Club holds its meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 7 p.m. at the club building, 433 Old Pittsburgh Road, Uniontown. Women’s meeting
Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville is holding a weekly meeting for women and teenage girls to discuss issues like depression, grief and eating disorders. Meetings are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Addiction recovery
On Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the addiction recovery ministry There is Hope will be held at Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville. Prayer group
Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville, is holding a weekly prayer group on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
