Uniontown man charged in assault, robbery

State police arrested a Uniontown man Tuesday after he allegedly assaulted a woman and stole money from her purse. Joe Earl Hines III, 25, of Uniontown, faces felony charges of aggravated assault, robbery, burglary, and misdemeanors of strangulation, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking and disorderly conduct. According to the criminal complaint, shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday police were called to a home in the 200 block of North Gallatin Avenue. Tania Taylor told police that she came home and found Hines lying in her bed and that there was shattered glass on the kitchen floor. State police remind drivers to lock car doors

State police are urging the public to secure their vehicles amid a rash of thefts. In a press release, police said there have been an increase in vehicle thefts in Fayette County, particularly in Uniontown. According to police, in many cases the vehicles were left unlocked. Drivers are asked to keep in mind several safety tips, such as always locking your vehicle when it will be left unattended even for a short time, never leave keys inside an unattended vehicle, park in well lit areas and do not leave valuables inside your vehicle. Police ask that any suspicious activity be reported to 911.
